Hey guys, I came across the word “baba,” which seems kinda like babcia, but it was used in a different context — the woman wasn’t even that old. Does “baba” just mean grandma, or does it have some other meaning or vibe depending on how it’s used?
Hi Ross, baba and babcia re not the same.
Babcia = grandmother (affectionate, standard).
Baba = woman, often informal and sometimes slightly derogatory, depending on tone and context.
Using baba to refer to a wife is possible but uncommon and can be risky, as it might sound disrespectful.
